So I just picked up my new Ranger monday. I'm loving it so far.

Today I noticed the check engine light came on. So I went to autozone and got them to read the ODBII codes for me.

0455: EVAP leak detected
0446: EVAP purge/vent solenoid condition
1633: ECM keepalive memory (KAM) voltage too low

When I got the truck, it didn't have a gas cap. They gave me one from the service department and the gas cap light went off. Today these all came on.

So it looks like 0455/0446 are probably related, possibly because there was no cap earlier this week?

I'm not sure about 1633.

Does anyone have experience with these? I was supposed to go out of town tomorrow, is it safe to drive it or should I take it in tomorrow morning?

I'm not sure what those are...but I would still drive it. There isn't a time in any of our vehicles that the Check Engine light isn't on. My Dad went out and bought one of the computers that tell you whats wrong. He can clear the lights too. Its very basic but gets the light off the dash.

something in your evap system is leaking, could be the gas cap isn't tightened down enough, or something else.

If I'm not mistaken, the KAM memory is what stores your vital proper run information for your truck such as the idle strategy and what not. Definitely should have that checked out.

I'm defiantly going back. Just not sure if I need to go back in the morning or if it can wait till Monday.

I remember i was working on evap on a 01 caddy, pos.

But i learned a few things, On that car, i replaced the evap/purge solenoids, had it smoke tested, all that, No leaks, but the codes still came up, It also had a pcm memory code.
I came to the conclusion that the computer was bad, being that they have a tendency to go on gm vehicles.

Or check around your gas cap, also why didnt it have one? If under the gas cap, inside the filler neck, there could be a slight dent in the filler neck around the seal on the cap, basically making that seal useless, could cause those codes.
I may have made that confusing.
there could also be a leak in the vent line?

Being that its brand new, take it back, if its a computer problem or evap leak, they need to fix it
Best to do it asap so that they cant pull some random shit saying they cant do it under warranty

the truck didnt have a gas cap? wtf? make them go over EVERYTHING

^^ That doesn't sound right. The gas cap is held on by a retainer. ^^

Take it back to the dealer. Either tell them you will wait on it or tell them to give you a loaner to drive.

I wouldn't drive it until it's fixed.

Birknasty- I know this is an old thread of yours, but the EVAP code is the same one my 2011 keeps throwing. Been in twice with dealer for it, second time they replaced the ECM. Still hasn't come back on but I havent driven enough miles yet to really tell if that fixed it. What ever ended up with your truck.

It's under warranty, why are you going to auto zone to find out codes? A missing or poor sealing fuel cap will definately turn the CEL on.
Let the dealer service dept do their job.
New truck with a missing fuel cap is a first for me.

My dealer has tried to fix my CEL for P206 Evap-related code, three times. I'm getting ready to start the lemon law process actually. They absolutely have no clue as to why it's coming on. It's not the gas cap, believe me I'm looking for this when I put gas in so I know I've got it on as f&%$# tight as it will go. 1st trip to dealer (They simply re-set it) told me come back if it comes on

2nd trip to dealer, dealer "Smoke-tests" my entire EVAP-fuel system whatever that means, re-sets light and tells me they couldn't find anything and nothing is wrong, but bring it back if the CEL comes on again and we will have to replace ECM.

3rd trip CEL on again about 800 miles later and the dealer replaces ECM with new unit per Ford request.

F%$#^ light is back on 1100 miles later, I break down and get my own code checker thingy from Autozone, it's telling me P206 Evap system-monitor. I took truck back to Ford and showed them the code per my code checker in the service drive. My advisor tells me this BS that my gas cap is loose, and I tell him no it's not I'm double checking it ever fill up, he says clear the code and bring it back if comes back on. I cleared it 200 miles ago and it's back on. WTF

I bought this truck "NEW" so I wouldn't have any problems. A "New Truck" should not have a CEL, better yet one that they have roughly been making the same thing for over 23 years. At what point to you leave the F$%^& truck with them and demand your money back, because your sick of spending money on rentals, loosing money because you are constantly taking the thing back to the dealer, and because you should be working not having your F$%# truck being worked on.

I use this truck for work, so when I don't have it I'm loosing an S%&!-load of $$$ Ford only pays for a rental car but not a rental truck. So I've been paying for rental trucks out of pocket. (I really loved the last 2011 Tundra they gave me for the day 5.7L iForce V8 and all!) but thats another story. End of rant.

Listen to Silver over here. I just bought mine less than a month ago and when I drove it off the lot, it had a brake and tail light switch problem. But I through a s**t fit and had them fix it on the double, give me a rental, and they also gave me an extended warranty. Don't let those guys get away with a brand new truck like that. They will have an extra fuel cap on them, I guarantee it. Hope everything works out.
