I have a work truck version (vinyl bench seats & flooring, no radio, no AC, no power steering, manual everything...) of the B2300 of the same year. I have a 14 gallon tank and no low level fuel light. I am getting 25-26 combined MPG personally, good job on the 30!

EDIT: I calculated my 14 gallon tank because after deciding to test my vehicle's range, the needle sat on empty and after filling up the truck took 13.5 gallons.

you have a 4cyl in a slightly heavy truck. mine did it to when going up hills when i had the 4cyl. you just gotta downshift and take it as it is. thats the big thing you traded performmance for mpg's we all make sacrifices

Also, no matter what else anybody tells you, you can change all plugs in this motor yourself. Use a 3/8" wobble plug socket, and various extensions to do the job. Do NOT pull the plug wires off of the plugs without a set of long extended spark plug wire removers, or they will break. I use a Mac tool plug wire remover that has a great reach, and always prevail.

Break your upper and lower arm in two places. You'll be able to reach then.
