Default 94 2.3l Ranger - Cam Position Sensor

Ok, I dont understand this. My truck is a SOHC 4 cylinder. The Cam Position Sensor is way down under the intake and looks like it goes into the block.

How does it read the cam position if its nowhere near it?

***EDIT

Does the Aux sprocket control/run the Camshaft Postion sensor? The Camshaft sensor is nowhere near the camshaft.

its down below intake near #1 cylinder.

When replaceing a broken timing belt does the Aux sproket need to be aligned a certain way?

I've seen online that it didnt matter, should be pointing straight up, or should be pointing towards cam mark.??????

I think your looking at the crankshaft position sensor not camshaft.

open the hood and look on the radiator support. there should be a few labels there, one shows the serp belt and another is an emissions label. see if it says conforms to California emissions, if it does then you should have a 1994 ranger that was built for California emissions. if so then you should have a camshaft positioning sensor. if not then you should not have a camshaft positioning sensor

I looked, it doesnt say anything about Cali. Just says "conforms to US EPA regulations for 1994 light duty trucks."

But there is def something there where the dizzy went. There is a wire connector there that goes into the same harness that the crankshaft sensor goes into which then goes to the ICM.
