how often to change air filter on a 2010 4 cyl??

i drive through dusty areas through the desert 5 times a week on the highway and it gets windy and dusty sometimes. also any high flow dry air filter you guys recommend or should i stick wih motorcraft/purolator??

I change mine every other oil change. For $9 its pretty good insurance thats cheap.

I honestly despite what others will say. I would recommend a K&N filter. They are expensive up front. However you can clean it every 3-4 weeks with it being dusty. So after a few months you have already saved.

The oil used on them is pretty cheap. You can use it about 20 times if you do it properly.

x2 i think the reason people dislike them is they put to much oil on them and it messes the filter up and can make ur air flow sensor get oil on it and give u a engine code.

With the K&N if you clean and oil it properly you wont have any problems with it.

I would also recommend cleaning the MAF sensor a couple times when you clean the filter.
1 reason is because of the dust you say you drive through.

just sayin advanced auto right now is having a sale buy a can of MAF cleaner get a free can of throttle body cleaner

I'm no car expert, but I think that is to frequent. How often do you change your oil? What conditions do you drive in? I think it is recommended every 12 months or 12,000 miles -- unless heavy duty idling or dusty conditions. My wife and I travel mostly highway miles, and I had our filter replaced on her Edge in Dec. The vehicle was at 50,000 miles, and I am a little bummed since I have to do it again at 59,000.

i do it about every 10k or so. well clean it, that is. go k&n!

It is easy to check it.
Inspect it every week if you want.
Base you own opinion on your own experience.
I change mine a couple times a year.
The cheapest filters have a hard plastic "gasket" or frame that may not seal well. For 1 or 2 dollars more, the filter will have a soft gasket which helps to seal it better.
