Default Problems with tranny or rear end??

I have a 1994 2.3l four cylinder ranger with a standard transmission. About a week ago it started becoming very difficult to shift into 2nd gear. sometimes i couldn't get into gear at all sometimes i had to double clutch sometimes it went in no problem. around the same time this started happening another problem came up. After backing up when i go to stop if I press the clutch and release the gas the truck jolts and comes to an abrupt stop as if it were stalling but then continues to idle normally. Also I found in reverse if I keep on the throttle a certain bit and depress the clutch it will coast backwards without doing the stop thing. The gear situation in getting worse as far as shifting into gear, last time i drove it 3rd gear gave me some trouble too. Has this exact thing happened to anyone? I would like to know what is happened before I replace the transmission. Thanks!

your post is a little confusing to me, but I would suggest that the first thing you do is check the clutch master cylinder for flud level. if it is low fill it up and then look fo ra leak on the firewall or put some cardboard under the tranny and look for a leaking slave. also check the level of ATF in the tranny itself. your year had plugs that would leak......do that then get back to us.....

I also would look in the clutch first,it sounds like maybe the facing loosened up on the disc or as stated above

this response in long overdue but i've been kept busy with motorcycle problems and recent injury. haven't found any leaks going to check the ATF today and still unsure if the problem is with the clutch. thanks for the suggestions.

If it is a clutch problem it sounds like broken springs in the pressure plate (clutch cover).
