Red face My Ranger needs a new life (engine-2.3L)

Question: Since I need another 2.3L engine for my Ranger what years will work to be able to just drop one down into my 1997 5 speed?

Your comments are much appreciated

You should be able to get anything anything from 95 on. I had a co worker with a 96 with a 98 engine in it. The 2.3 is an easy engine to rebuild and has a ton of aftermarket support, as Ford has put it in everything. The same engine is in my gf's 2004 Focus. I'd research both rebuild and a swap before you did it, it may take more time to rebuild but it may be forth it price wise. As far as 4 cyls the 2.3l Ford is the Small Block Chevy of the 4 cyl world.

Thanks, man. I think I will look for a rebuild and use the existing engine to tinker with. Probably rebuild it and use it for the next transplant because I am keeping this one for a long, long time.

HAGO (Have a good one)
