2001 Ranger blue smoke could it be a head gasket ?
new to the ranger world, just got my first one, a 2001 Ford ranger with a 2.3 Engine, it only got 108 K miles on it. It blows blue smoke, lots of it and burns lots of oil. I took the cylinder head off the car and the gasket, there was a lot of oil on the cylinder head, gasket and the block plus oil on the pistons. could be a gasket ? compression reads 180 on all of them. cylinder walls were clean and there was no groves or any scratches on them, how do I know if it was bad rings or a head gasket ? when I drive it on the high way there is no smoke at all. it goes away. I really hate to change the rings, I would have to take the engine out to get the oil pan off. any one got any ideas ?
