Default Just went 234 miles on $40 worth of gas
in a standard cab, 2wd, 5-speed, 2.5L Ranger.

I'm pissed.

@ $3.50 a gallon it's roughly 13.5 MPG. I didn't do anything differently than I normally do, but I have noticed a decrease in mileage in my truck. I have never gotten that bad just running the A/C in the summer out of 14 years of owning Rangers since my first new one in 1997, all of which have been standard cab, 2wd, 5-speed, 2.5L.

I was thinking maybe I got some watery gas or something. Anyone else seeing horrible numbers like that in our small 4 cyl engines?

I mean hell....... I get 16 MPG in my 300HP SAV and it's a lot more damn comfy to drive.





If I can't get back towards 20 MPG on my Ranger I am gonna have to figure something out. What are you 4 banger guys currently seeing in gas mileage? Every few months the gas mixtures change and the temps change and everything seems to be off.

I'm hoping it is not just me because I actually think it is the gas mixtures they are running at the pumps right now.

im not sure, do a tune up to start. oil change, change some filters, change the plugs and everything.

my 2wd 94 got 18mixed 28full hwy

my 4wd 4.0l get 19.5 mixed 25full highway


i say do a tune up on that and see

how is it runninng?

Might also have clogged cats along with needing tune up. Are you experiencing power loss or anything?

Are you sure you did your math right? At 3.50 a gallon $40 bucks would have got you around 11.5 gallons of gas. 234 miles on 11.5 gallons is around 20 miles a gallon. Correct me if im wrong guys but that sounds right to me.

I agree with DangerRanger; $40 / $3.50 = 11.43 gallons. 234 miles / 11.43 = 20.47 miles per gallon.

Yes it's correct because I didn't run it dry. I had a small allowance left in the tank I factored in hence why I used the word ROUGHLY. Thanks for looking out though!


PS- whomever posted above me you are on ignore and I only do that to people who are smartasses so I am guessing I didn't miss anything in that post.

Just fine. No issues at all. That's what is odd. It was undercooling thanks to a hung thermostat when I did this run, but I am not sure how much it affected mileage.

I checked the truck with the engine running at night and didn't see any sparks or arcs around the engine where I'd notice any plug wire issues.
