Default 2.3l help. Rough idle and wont rev

Have a mazda with the 2.3l in it. I bought the truck cheap and it wasnt running right. No history on it at all. It wasnt charging when i got it and fixed that part(blown fuse) but it just wont run right. I have replaced the spark plugs and clean the MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner. Also put in a new air filter. It idles rough and wont rev past probly 3k(no tach) before it bogs. The engine doesnt smoke at all.

Ive got on the list of parts to try, a new fuel filter, new spark plug wires, and maybe a new MAF since reading that alot of people had problems with it going bad. Is there anything else i need to be aware of or to look for problem areas?

plugs, wires, coil pack, throttle body not working properly, cat. converter stopped completely up, it could be a number of things. if your check engine light still works and it's on, go have the codes read. autozone or advanced auto usually chacks them for free. This is prolly why you got the truck for cheap. check back with some codes, if you have any. if not may need a new eng. if the truck had been sitting up for a while, some of the valves could be stuck.

Already changed the plugs, and air filter, and cleaned the MAF. The plug wires werent that great so i picked up a new set and a fuel filter last nite and will be putting them on this morning.

The check engine light does not work so i dont know if its throwing a code or not. If the stuff i just picked up doesnt work ill be having the codes read to see whats on there.

little update. I got the new plug wires on there, fuel filter, and upper plenum gasket and it still ran bad. Took it over to a buddys shop and they checked fuel pressure and that looked good but he thought it was a plugged cat, and told me to pull the upstream O2 and see if it ran better. Went to do that and found out that the previous owner pulled the tranny at some point and pinched the wires in the bellhousing. My buddy said thats the problem so ive got a new O2 on the way and they are going to get the plug out of the bellhousing and install it.

The engine light doesnt work but they pulled the codes and the only codes on there were saying no O2 sensor power, so at least they were spot on.

Finally got it fixed. It turned out to have multiple problems. The O2 sensor got fixed and we found out after it still didnt run right that the timing belt was a few teeth off. I went ahead and put a new water pump and timing belt in it since it was apart and now it runs strong.

----------

My next thing will be putting new leaf springs on the back. I found some that come with an extra leaf for a good price and it should up my payload by 250lbs so ill be good with that.
