Not sure what to tell you other than a wire short the TPS is merely an on off switch that tells the computer to control the engine for idling. If it is failing then it means that the signal for the computer to do what it does is not hitting right. You can try and clean out the intake really well it is possible that if it is not telling it to control the idle it is because debris/build up may be preventing it from resting all the way. Typically there is an adjustment screw that stops the accelerator pulley at a certain point if someone goofed around with it for some reason. Well you should understand.
TPS function - rest, light click, WOT, light click, rest.
If you push the throttle plate open with the engine off carefully listen to see if you hear the light click just before it hits the rest position. G/L
