Default Throttle Position Sensor Failure

Hi, First time here and am going absolutely insane

Took my 2000 2.5l Ranger to get inspected and failed to a t/p sensor code. Changed out the sensor and the check engine light came on again after driving 10 miles. Thinking it could be a bad part, switched it one more time and got to drive it 20 miles before the light turned on again.

Sooooo, I then changed out the connector and still..."Check Engine" Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I wish i had the extra cash to just take it to a mechanic but i already received 2 citations from 2 different cities for this and i won't be able to afford it.

Not sure what to tell you other than a wire short the TPS is merely an on off switch that tells the computer to control the engine for idling. If it is failing then it means that the signal for the computer to do what it does is not hitting right. You can try and clean out the intake really well it is possible that if it is not telling it to control the idle it is because debris/build up may be preventing it from resting all the way. Typically there is an adjustment screw that stops the accelerator pulley at a certain point if someone goofed around with it for some reason. Well you should understand.

TPS function - rest, light click, WOT, light click, rest.

If you push the throttle plate open with the engine off carefully listen to see if you hear the light click just before it hits the rest position. G/L

Let us know.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I will give that a try tomorrow and let you know how it turns out. I can only hope that it ends up being that simple, we'll see. Thanks again!

I always set the tps voltage....48-.52V at idle?? and 1V at WOT key on engine off

there are other ways to do it also. I adjust the voltage by rotating it untill the volts work out, you may have to drill the mount holes a little larger to get it

Default Re: Throttle Position Sensor Failure

Hi there...I've got a 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0 V6 Flex. I've found that it doesn't like Autolite spark plugs. The truck will jerk as if it is going in and out of overdrive. What's happening is, the AutoLite plugs (AP103) are not firing as hot as they should, creating a slight miss in the engine, not enough to be picked up by the ECM, thus no check engine warning light. If you've changed your plugs and replaced them with AP103 AutoLite and experience this you need to use the Motorcraft plug AGFS22FM (SP500). I replaced the AutoLite plugs and the truck is running like a new one. Hope this will help someone.
