Default 97 2.3l head removal how hard

i have a 97 ranger with a 2.3l the previous owner said that it came out of timing i drove it back home it struggled going up hills so i had to keep my foot on it and down shift the front cyclinder has little to no compression my dad said that he thinks it bent the valves he wants me to take the head off and have new valves put in and to have it port and polished along with a new timing belt i just want to know how hard its going to be to pull it off and while i got it off what else should i do to prevent any major complications this is going to be my comuter to school and work and i need a truck thats reliable around the farm and i would really like to get it fixed cause im driving a 85 s-10 that has no power and is the biggest peice of s#!t in the world (its not a ford) any hints or tips would be helpfull. i have all the tools that i need my grandpa owns his own shop so that wouldnt be a problem. thanks.

They are a non-interference motor so you don't have to worry about bending valves when you pop a timing belt.Hook it up and get it scanned first then do a compression test, wet and dry and do a leak down test.this will at least give you a direction to go in

if i dont have to take the head off could i just get it back in to timing it has a really rough idle but it will stay on and it has no power going up a little hill you can be going in fifth doing 70 and you have to down shift to third to just make it it has 158,000 do you think it would hurt to replace the timing belt and to change out the coil packs and give it a real good tune up the previous owner had taken extremly good care of it the exhaust pipes dont have but just a tiny bit of rust my 98 explorer 5.0 awd the manifolds were rusted all to hell and back but then again i did take it to every mud hole around hartwell

put a new belt on it and put plugs in it.I wouldn't change the coils unless you have a bad one

ok i got the truck back in timing its dead on i went ahead and put a new timing belt on while i was at even though the other one was brand spanking new and i also put on a crank position sensor i put it back together and its still idling rough and the engine shakes not as bad but its still pretty bad it was showing a check engine light but i havent had time to go to my grand dads house get his scanner but its acting like the exaust is clogged up its holdin a lot oh heat in the engine carpartment but the engine isnt running hot so i took out the upstream o2 sensor and the engine quite shaking as much and started to smooth out could this be caused by a polluted cat or something else if its the cat im thinking about cutting it out and putting a peice of pipe their i dont live no where near any places that they test for smog also before i unplugged took out the o2 sensor it wasnt sucking in any air im just wondering if the cat is plugged up what do yall think.

If you use periods behind your sentences, your thoughts are much easier for us to read.... .
