Gas consumption problem - Need some advice
I have a 2000 Ford Ranger, 2.5L, 5 speed standard transmission.
For the past year or so, I've noticed a sharp decline in gas mileage in my truck, which is now creeping close to 218,000 miles. Last year, I recorded my gas mileage as around 20-25 mpg. Now it's down to 17-19. Recently, I replaced my spark plugs. One strange condition in this truck is it has 8 spark plugs, 4 on each side of the truck. On the driver's side of the engine, the spark plugs seemed worn out and in need of replacement, as expected. The other side, however, seemed to be less corroded than the other. When I finished replacing the plugs and the wires, I took it for a ride and calculated the mileage and the max was around 19 mpg. I noticed that there were 2 ignition coils, one for each side of the engine. I suspect that one of the coils is worn out and needs to be replaced but I don't want to go through all that work without consulting someone about it.
If you can give me any advice or suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated.

cap/rotor, O2 sensors, clean MAF, etc..theres a bunch of "routine maintenance" things you could do.

Re: Gas consumption problem - Need some advice
Have you changed the air filter and clean/replaced the things mentioned on other replies? Basic stuff first then move on to other things.
