Default sick ranger

ok i have an 86 ranger with a 2.3 l 5 speed. problem is after you drive it for a while and shut it off it will start and run for a few seconds and die. does not matter if you hit the gas or not. after you let it sit for about 30 mins it will start and run fine. any ideas would be helpful

when you first start it up it starts real easy but after driving like 10 miles and shut it off if you hit the key a few times it will start and run for about 30 seconds then die. then it does this and if i let it sit for 30 mins it will start and run fine till i shut it off again then same thing. but if i only go less then 3 miles its fine all the time.

Don't know much abouit early years but see if it has a temp sensor around where the top hose is with two wires and next time it acts up just remove the connector from the sensor to see if it straightens up and runs.
