Default Full tune up gone bad? Quick question, about rapid rev, slow, to dying.

1999 Ford Ranger 4Cyl, Manual

http://www.fordrangerforum.com/4-cyl...t-needs-d.html
Started here, Got everything done, replaced.

BUT the valve cover/intake gasket kit, had everything BUT THE ONE gasket I needed(SEE PICTURE)

This gasket goes to the back of the intake, the pipe then goes down to the exhaust, Is this for unburnt fuel, to be burnt before leaving the car? More or less emissions?

Anyways, Since I didnt have the gasket I left the bolts out, and started it with everything else finished...

Plugs, Wires, valve cover gasket, mid intake gasket.....

It revved up really high, almost died, revved really high, then died....

Is this because it was checking the vacuum in the thing I left unbolted???

Please say yes, I dont know what else would cause it...

Sorry if you cant fallow me, LOOOONG day/weekend..... Just finished the truck in-between work, and other issues...

Ive never seen worse plugs before... The #2 arcing was HORRIBLE .080 gapped from the arcing. Most other plugs were arc eroded, but not so severe...

Plugs out of box were gaped at .065, I re-gaped to .044

Parts store closed by the time I figured out the kit didnt come with it.

Do you know what this piece is called? So I can buy it tomorrow?

mhmm EGR valve gasket. Leaving it unbolted will cause your current problem. Ive had it happen to me. You could prolly re-use that gasket, and get it drivable to get you to the part store if you dont have another set of wheels.
