Hey I have a 2004 Ranger with a bad motor a moron smoked it after having it 3 months. now I got it back with a rod knock. I can buy a 2001 motor for a resonable price, will this swap work? they are both 2.3 Rangers. I am already throwing good money after bad. So I am trying to get something out of the truck.

How much for the motor you're looking at?

And btw yes it will fit its a direct swap from 2001-2011 it's the same engine The duratec 23ns

They usually have a few years that are interchangeable engines....
