Default 1998 Ranger has a bug.

So my ranger has 254,000 miles on the cluster. My problem started a while back couple months ago, while driving at highway speeds it would buck once sometime twice. It would be like an intermitting problem. than started doing this more ofter. The other morning it cool and damp out side started the truck was idling fine than died tried cranking over would not do nothing until i hit the throttle than run fine when i would get off the gas while driving it would die unless i stay on the throttle. So I start checking and found vacuum leak repaired that. The next morning same conditions the truck did the same thing. So I checked the ohms on the IAC motor and it failed So I replaced the IAC. So this morning it was cool and damp started truck let it run was fine while idling on and off the gas. My main problem is while at highway speeds 60-70mph it will randomly buck like someone cut the ignition but the truck does not stall. I tune the truck up 3 months ago normal maintenance plugs wires air filter. I have check the coils for cracks look good. I don't have a factory manual I'm not sure where the ignition module is i would like to inspected this any advice would be great.

Do you have any power loss going up hills, or starting from a stop?

No power loss going up hills or starting. It intermitting just cruising it will like buck like a quick pause but the truck doesn't stall. you can go 10 miles or 50 miles and it might do it.

I had a Mazda-built B2xxx truck that bucked every once once in a while, usually on the highway. Felt like the ignition was cut out completely for about 1/8th second. Replaced various bits over the years and never found it.

This very similar to what the truck is doing its very fast but strange. It would seem you would think it would do this under a heavy load but doesn't . Just going down the highway it does it whenever it feels like it.

So I thought I would give you all a update on the ranger. Turns out I had a bad coil also the dpfe sensor was bad the egr tube had a hole in it. Replaced these parts been a week and all is fine.
