Default EGR question

Good evening, I am the owner of a 93 Danger Ranger with a 2.3, I have used the search tool and google as well, but instead of giving me a better picture of whether the EGR is good or bad I am now even more confused.

I was under the impression from several different websites (forums and other) that a faster combustion is better for fuel economy as well as performance, but the EGR slows combustion down for emissions? So its "Good" for the environment but "bad" for performance and MPG?

Thanks,
Sean

Default Re: EGR question

EGR is good for the air but bad for performance to a degree. Most egr systems are designed to operate in a specific throttle width. Idle= no egr. Wide open throttle= no egr. Part throttle=egr.
As most parts are, it's mechanical and does wear out/malfunction. Cleaning and/or replacement is neccesary at some time.
