ive got a 96 ranger with the 4 cylinder it starts and idles fine if you rev it and then let off the throttle it stumbles and runs rough, then either smothes out or dies , weve changed cats and fuel pump and filter , checked for vaccume leaks, cleaned iac valve and replaced the tps sensor and we have ran out of ideas , anybody else have this issue or any ideas what would cause this

I have a similar prob with a 98 Ranger 2.5. Started out with misfire code on 2&4. changed plugs, changed both coils, changed IAC, TPS ,egr, fuel pump and all filters, 3 cans starting fluid checking for leaks, Will Idle at start up and evens out when warmed up. If driven down road will get to 50 or 55 in third gear but drops off severly in 4th with pedal on floor. Come to stop and dies. Hard to restart. $500.00 in parts this week and still stumped. I am at witts end.

Pull the wire to the EMC temp sensor to see if it smooths out, if so replace

Will five this a try. Thanks for the reply. I am learning a lot about this ranger in a short period of time thanks to all the input from this sight. Even with all the frustration I am looking forward to driving it.
