hahahahahahahhahahaha. lol. rotfcopter. etc. So your response to asking for simple proof of your outrageous claim is "I must not know what I'm talking about"?
When translated, that means you have no proof, your brother has no proof, and this magical 12-15 hp improvement from a tubular piece of plastic is gauged by nothing more than the seat of his pants? Just as I suspected.
Clearly I was right on the bullshit flag.

The engine is the same. Why would it sound different?[/QUOTE]
Have you actually done a intake system on a automatic and stick? I have one on my truck and it's mellow probably very little hp gain and mpg gain. I've also put the same system on my friends automatic. Same motor. And it just sounds so dumb with more of a chirping whistle. With a cold air intake it's allowing your vehicle to breath more giving it more hp and mpg which again isn't much a stock air filter restricts that air flow and does more of a filter job with less airflow which mean less hp and mpg.

Re: How much MPG Improvement with a Cold air Intake?
I just typed up one of my usual long scientific replies about why this is total non-sense on a Ford Ranger and on most other vehicles as well. But then I realized, why am I wasting my keystrokes. This guy thinks a plastic tube added 15hp to a truck and has ignored all sensible logic and fact up to now. Why keep repeating myself. So this was shorter.

The fact still remains: you have no proof as to the gains of your brothers setup. I am telling you from EXPERIENCE that it gives you absolutely no gains that are noticeable. Yes, it makes it sound louder, but you won't see any gain in your gas mileage, and you will not get any power out of it without putting more money into tunes specifically designed for a cold air intake, or for more power adders which completely defeat the purpose of a CAI in the first place!
Also, I believe a lot of guys will also tell you that their stock filter vs. their CAI don't change the temperature the engine is operating at because like Matt said, the CAI is sucking hot air from inside the engine bay while the stock air box is pulling cold air from outside through a small hole in the fender.
Cold air intakes, IMO, are a total waste of money and are not even close to efficient. OP, don't waste your money. If anything, do the air box mod if you feel the need for a change in sound.

From your PM... http://store.knfilters.com/search/pr...x?Prod=57-3043
Can I interest you in a bridge I have for sale?? Great bargain. $250 for the Brooklyn bridge. $500 for the GW. And a real steal $999.99 for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. I'll even through in a fishing pier.

I've done a lot of tuning on rangers and intakes do close to nothing for them. I've done one Colorado and there is a noticeable amount of hp gain not much. I haven't actually been able to mess with the computer because of me recently moving. But bottom line is if u want to get one for your 2.3 I wouldn't. K&n is good but u won't really notice a different

Re: How much MPG Improvement with a Cold air Intake?
I don't understand the people who say "This is really good but it does nothing".
Show us proof of this outrageous claim of HP gain in your brother's truck from a plastic tube or your credibility on it is zero. I'm not trying to be dick, but if your going to make an outrageous statement with nothing to back it up, nobody is going to believe you.

I understand why your stressing over this but coming from a guy that does all of his mechanic work himself (me) while you guys take your trucks to a shop to pay for the crappy work that shops do. I've been doing my own work for a while I'm no newbie to this

WHAT?! Well congratulations jerk. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. If you're going to insult the entire forum (which you clearly know nothing about), don't expect to stick around here very long. You don't know shit about the people on this forum and it sounds like you don't know shit about mechanics either. You're off to a great start here on your first day. Is there anything else you would like to add to your resume of bullshit on day one?

Lol. I so just want to flame the shit out of you right now, but this is only the internet, and it's kinda late so most of my ranting probably wouldn't make sense. Just stop typing anything else in this thread and move on.
