Default hesitant and reving engine

Hi all, I have a 05 2wd ranger. sometimes when I go to start her she kind of hesitates as if she's going to die and then the engine catches and she revs for a minute then she settles down. last week at my brothers place had to crank her about three x's before she would start. thought it was the battery, because the green dot was red. bought a new battery and she's still doing the same thing. It doesn't happen all the time but enough to warrant a concern. hope someone has the answer to this problem. did a voltage reading and it was 14+ volts while running. thanks
