short RAM intake on 09 2.3L
Hey guys,
Was looking into moding my intake for my 2009 2.3L XL. Apparently the 2.3L is not popular in the modding world, at least in terms of the companies that sell aftermarket parts.
Anywho, I saw one of those short RAM intakes offered by Airaid. Again, they don't offer anything out of the box for a 2.3L. BUT I was wondering If I can use this http://www.carid.com/images/air-inta...aa-400-194.pdf
on my 2.3L. It's for a 4.0L V6, but I'm looking at the pictures, it's basically the same! the airbox, the filter, MAF locations etc... Am I able to use this on my 2.3L?
Thanks guys,
Santiago

Re: short RAM intake on 09 2.3L
Don't bother, save your money.
Yes, I am sure it can be made to fit properly but why?
Your 2.3L Duratec intake is setup to be as efficient as possible, and, is already a functional cold air intake by design, leave it be, put your $$$ elsewhere...

Yes, you can use, no you won't gain more than MAY'BE a horsepower by doing so. Open air cleaners generally do nothing more than make noise and draw hot under hood air into your engine. The airbox mod for these trucks is about the best performance gain on money you'll never have to spend. Remember we aren't driving a high performance machine, the Ranger is a pure, simple, and inexpensive workhorse.

Re: short RAM intake on 09 2.3L
Actually, by science, you will gain NOTHING, period, except possible loss in power due to the heat charge on air forced in to the intake.
As for the airbox mod(removing the silencer tube) this really does nothing for performance either, other than change the "sound", about it.
As said leave it alone, spend your money on something worth while, and don't bother with the time needed to "mod" your stock airbox.
Again my $.02...

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I agree, especially, on the ranger being a simple workhorse . Actually, I just took out the silencer yesterday. It was easy and free. So I decided to do it. I did notice a difference in sound, but nothing significant.

He never said he wanted it to gain anything.
This thread made me chuckle, thanks.
edit: cleaned up language a bit.
Add on: I looked up your engine model in wiki (i know i know) and found the focus 2003-2007 also had the 2.3 duratec i4, there could be a chance the focus' short ram could be a plug and play fit. It could be worth a look, you might be able to find one used from focus tuners, who knows.
