So I drive and own a 1993 2.3L Ford Ranger and my dad and I have both figured out that it just has nothing power wise. There's hills you have to hit second to get up going from speed.
I was just wondering if anybody else has noticed anything like this with there's or knows any cheep upgrades to help my baby's lack of power.

Is the check engine light on?

Have you tried a new air filter & fuel filter?

Have you tried new plugs & wires?

Okay the thing is the check engine light does come on randomly like after I've driven a constant speed for about a mile or so? But then it is off the next time I start up.
I have not done air filter or fuel.
I have had the plugs and wires replace probably about 6 months ago that did help.
I feel as if the Air filter would defiantly help

i'm with snowball on this one. i have the 2.3l and they arn't a powerhouse but even with all the crap in my bed mine's not that bad?????

Well if you're talking about your 2004 truck not trying to sound like a dick or anything but they probably improved the 2.3's a little in the 11 year difference.
But really it's not like my truck doesn't work it just is a dog.

Yes your 2,3 has 100hp when it's running up to it's potential. I believe my 09 has 147hp.

That aside I am betting a new air filter & fuel filer would wake her up for you.

I also owned a 94 Ranger 2.3l 5spd manual.


Also the very 1st thing you should do since the check engine light is coming on. Is to get the codes pulled from the ECM. If you have an Auto Zone near you. They will check for the codes a no cost.

There's a good chance that AZ won't have the OBD-I code reader needed for your 93. If that is the case, it is possible to pull OBD-I trouble codes at home with just a test light or voltmeter.

2003 XLT 2.3L M5OD-R1 reg cab, 2011 Taurus SEL, 2016 C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid

I replaced my oil, oil filter, air filter, and put some injector cleaner just recently and it made a huge difference. probably would go as far to say gave me 10-15% more rwhp in the lower RPMs, not much in the higher, but definitely better gas mileage.
All purchased from wal-mart haha

but I'm definitely doing plugs and wires soon too, I'm expecting a good difference from those too, hopefully.

I even slipped the tires slamming into second after I did all that and was racing around to feel the difference. Made me pretty proud of my little I4.

also with a 93 you can boy a obd 1 which is just a little box with a light on it and a haynes manual and run the codes yourself

i have a 94 2.3 5 speed i knoked out the catylitic converter and built my own cold air intake i would not recomend this if you live somewhere that does smog checks but i do pull a trailer with it about 2200 lbs on a daily basis i can run down the hwy at 60 in 5th gear 4th on the hills.mind you i live in fairly flat country.i have 240.000 miles it and would not trade it

would doing something with the exhaust help it out you think maybe like glass pack of just a straight pipe?
