Question Problem with guages on 2.3

I have a 1990 2.3, and my fuel and temp guages dont work I know there is power going to them because they move counter-clockwise when the truck is on, but they don't indicate the right fuel level or engine temp, i was wondering if i should check the sensors, cabling, and such, and where the deuce these sensors are?!? please help

i would like to know this as well.
i just bought a 95 ranger splash and the fuel gauge and temp gauge seem to be on crack.
fuel reads empty and temp reads full-blast-over-heating-OMFG-batman hot.

First off I'm no mechanic but I'm trying to fix a similar problem. The fuel thing sounds like a float switch problem in the tank. The temp sensor is at the drivers side engine block. If you get underneath the vehicle and look up you can see the single wire sensor/sender.
You can also see the oil pressure sending unit. If I recall this as a tube. I can check if you need more info.

On mine which is a 94 i just put in a new sending unit and fuel pump and still problems , unless i guess its possible there could be problems with the float or electrical , is it possible that the guage could be faulty because mine stayes at 1/4 no matter how much i got in

Oh man... I am having the SAME problem with mine! I got a 1995 4 cyl. 5-speed and is ALWAYS on "EMPTY" Of course the "Check Guage" light NEVER goes out. This means I have to guess how much gas I have in there.

I can't tell you how many times I have been driving in the middle of nowhere and the thing sputters... "FEED ME SEYMOUR!!" of course, then I start praying my hiney off to make it to a gas station. I would LOVE to get this problem resolved so I won't be stuck walking one of these days.

Well mine again the fuel guage not working properly

but now a new problem is my temp guage doesnt work , everytime i turn the engine on both guages move to the left

Could it be the actual dash cluster going bad or wiring or i actually have a problem with my temp guage

Its so anyoing cause i cant figure it out

Hello Everyone- This is my first post here. I seem to have solved the same problem on my '93 2.3L 5spd. I took the instrument cluster out and cleaned all of the electrical connections. The problem seemed to be on a device that looks to me like a voltage regulator for the guages. The fix was about 2 yrs ago, I've had no problems since. Good luck everyone!

I Have a 96 3.0 5 speed and my temp gauge will not reach the middle and normally sits @ 1/4 or under the lil boat.. The Gauge will do what I call a lil Tweeker Twitch or move up and down very quickly off and on while driving or sitting.. its not a constaint twitch... I just bought a Temp Sender Switch but im Not sure if its the same and gos in the same place as a coolent temp sensor.... Can Some one help Me out Please Should I replace some thing else.

i have a 90 also, my fuel gauge never worked until i took the bed off and put a new fuel pump, filter, and sending unit in, its in the gas tank, and now my fuel gauge is pretty accurate, and as for the temp gauge mine never goes past the dash rite after the c and before the normal, it gets to the N on normal if im running my ac but thats it, ive always wondered if it was accurate to but its never over heated or anything so im not worried about it

Question Re: Problem with guages on 2.3

What's with the gauge issues? I own a 97xlt reg cab 2.3 4 cyl that I conervted to a 5speed...a few months after the conversion the speedo went psyco on me. It would jump around and then gave up on me. Shortly after my oil pressure gauge quit also. My odometer stopped at 180160 and won't turn anymore...I've had the gauge cluster out numerous times and cleaned all connections but still no luck....any feedback or advice as to what went wrong in there? Thanks!
