Default Dead Ranger

So it was a typical morning, get ready for work, yada yada yada. Jump in the truck and down the road I go. Got about a mile down the road and it was like someone turned the ignition off. She just quit, no sputter, no nothing just quit. It cranks but no ignition or even sputtering for that matter.

Fast forward, got it home and checked the obvious. Getting spark, and can hear the fuel pump start with key in on position.
What could it be ? clogged fuel filter or bad return ?

Looking for insight from those all knowing and powerfull Ranger Gods.

Thanks in advance !

Possibly your timing belt/chain, whichever it has.

Out of gas? Fuel pressure regulator, which I believe is built into the fuel pump assembly on the '98, may have stopped working.

This is an OBDll vehicle. An OBDll scan tool will show what's wrong, or at least provide a general idea of the system at fault. The scan tools are cheap enough these days that there should be one in every tool box, right next to the compression tester and the vacuum gauge.

Found the issue, the timing belt let go. So looks like I'll be doing a new belt.

Any input on this process before I tear into it !
