Default 86 2.3 ranger 8 spark plugs or 4?

how many plugs do I need? I read somewhere that some rangers have 8 plugs in the 2.3? does that mean I need two sets of wires as well?

cheers

There is no need to change all 8 plugs 4 are fro emissions only

Just change the ones on the intake side

im sorry to differ but you should definetly change all 8 considering the age of the truck they are there for a reason and they require spark

Under normal driving conditions only 4 are being used anyways

If you are to smash down on the gas pedal the other 4 work to ignite the gas/O2 faster

You can change them every 6 years but there is no need to change them every time

Each set of plugs have their own coil pack also

if it is a 1986 and you said change them every six years you do the math

Im guessing he is not the original owner. So he can change them if he fills it is necessary.

Then not worry about them again for some time

Personally I wouldn't change them unless the truck was running rough or the CEL came on.

They are not being used 100% of the time the life of those 4 plugs is gonna be greater then the other 4. I would say they are being used 10-20% of the time. If you never drive the truck hard and are easy on the gas they are never being used

Just get 8 plugs of the same kind motorcraft

(autozone part numbers)
SP-482 platinum $4.99
SP-409 copper $1.99

Spark Plug Gap 0.044 inch

And yes if you are gonna change it all you will need plug wires for them also

How long have you had this truck?

I've had it since august. It's not the most excellent running truck but hopefully I can get it there eventually.
