Default Help oMg 1997 ranger motor options

Hey guys I have a 1997 ford ranger with a 2.3 l in it. The bottom end is just destroyed so I'm engine shopping and wondering exactly what engine - year model will bolt to my tranny with little or no mods. I've heard anything from 91-99 but an autowrecker said 1997-99 only. Any thoughts?

Any 2.3 from a ranger / b series from 93-97 will bolt in. In 98 they swapped to the 2.5 and I'm not sure if that will bolt up.

So I won't need to change the ecu or anything 93-97 or make any mods?

Yup, you are going to want to stay with 96 or 97s most likely though. They are OBD II and should have all the plug ins for your harness.

Just a FYI, you can change the bellousing (if automatic) to the 4.0 bellhousing. If say you come across a deal with what you would need. and blah blah blah
