Default Why is my 99 Ford Ranger not getting better fuel mileage?

I have a 99 Ford Ranger 2 wheel drive 2.5 liter 4 cyl 5 spd stick with no Air conditioning with about 96k millage. When I first bought this truck with 60k miles on it, it got around 22 to 27 miles per gallon. ( which is what it's rated at 22 city and 27 highway) and usually with combined driving it stayed at right around 24 or 25 per gallon.

Right now all I get is 21 per gallon. It had a check engine light code for the Oxygen sensor. I changed both oxygen sensors and reset the computer and the check engine light went out, but the millage is still the same. Right around 21 mpg. I also keep the tire pressure up in the tires and don't drive the truck aggressively hammering the gas. It also has a new catalytic converter and The truck runs great, but the fuel mileage just isn't what it should be for a little truck like this with a 4cyl and a stick. I've also pulled the plugs and they don't appear to indicate the motor is running rich, nor does the exhaust show any soot build up.

Some people have cited the 96k millage as the reason, which having experience with these little trucks I know is a load of crap, because the little trucks I've owned like this in the past got the same fuel mileage all the way through their life span as long as I changed the oil . Some have also suggested the reason for the fuel mileage might be the ethanol they are putting in the fuel.

Anyone have any ideas on why the fuel millage loss ? I know some of you might think that 21 miles per gallon isn't bad, but anyone who's had experience with these little trucks knows it's way off.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Do tune ups and check tire pressure and run engine codes to make sure nothing is messed up.
