Did you ever find out if your Cats were clogged? I have a 98 ranger 3.0 that I bought recently that seems to have the same symptoms as yours, I have tried everything but to check for an exhaust restriction., Cat / muffler.

started right after you used the seamfoam thing ayh? it's wierd that number2 and 3 are running cooler then 1 and 4...seaform is pretty strong stuff, is it possible that some gunk went in and clogged injector 2 and 3? try swapping them those with number 1 and 4, see if the temperature follows, that could be a part of your problem, just guessing

I never did find out. I finally gave up and sold it to a guy who did report back that the engine needed a rebuild. I never heard back on what exactly the problem was. This is one time I never solved a problem mechanically.

i know it doesn't matter now, but i've seen cars do this when the computer module goes bad. And a cool trick to find vacuum leaks (question from earlier) is to use ether or starting fluid; spray just a little around vacuum hoses while the engine is on - you'll hear it rev a little bit when it sucks the fumes in.

The truck will show code p0170 (bank 1 lean) if the MAF is bad. She will run lean and the more throttle you give, the more likely it will want to cut out. This happened to me. Are you shopping for another ranger?
