Anything that will read "extended" (manufacturer specific) codes and display live data is enough. Then grab a book on code scanners. Trust me on THAT one.

Smile Re: Recommend me a good scanner code reader?

Hello,

I am also in need of a Code Reader / Scanner for my 1995 Ranger. The data tag under the hood and the owner manual state the truck is OBD II compliant as well as a Chilton Repair Manual I have. The truck has a scanner port on the dash under the steering wheel with a plastic access cover. The port is 16 pin of which 7 pins are populated. Problem is all the readers/scanners I have looked at are for 1996 and newer vehicles. The auto parts stores I have been to don't really know if a scanner for a 1996 or newer truck will work.

Any advice is appreciated!!

Thanks

My buddy has a snap on scanner and it works great but he paid over $500 for it.I got one from harbor freight to take to the track with me and it does everything his does and only cost $89.Been dropped, kicked and thrown in the tool box and still works fine but will probably get another as the screen is quite scratched up
