Default Please help with how to Loosen distributor 1984 2.3 liter.

My 1984 Ford Ranger 2.3 Liter broke the timing belt. Before the old belt broke it ran very good. Since installing the new belt i have had problems. Engine Runs fine with good power wile cold but after a few miles of warming up it misfires and backfires out of Air intake, Caughs sputters. It does not do this at a constant rate it sometimes runs fine for a few minutes with good power then it starts missing again low power. it does this at any speed or rpm. It is possible that i did not correctly align the distributor drive gear on the belt i know i got the crank and the cam right i have done this many times on other engines but this was the first time i ever worked on a 2.3 liter and had to rely on my hanes manual witch is very crappy on good clear pictures and instructions relating to the distributor alignment and how to. I want to try to loosen the distributor and turn it a bit to see if i can get the engine to run better. I have large hands and for the life of me can not figure out how to get to the distributor hold down bolt so i can loosen it a bit . I have done this many times on other engines but never have i encountered a such badly placed and inaccessible distributor like on this 2.3 liter engine . Is there anyone out there that can tell me what tool to use and good how to instructions on how to loosen the distributor hold down bolt so i can turn it i cant even get my hand under the distributor to feel then head of the bolt to see where it is.

I need to mention i mildly disliked fords before i got this truck but now i really hate fords.

I have huge hands too..and it was stupid for them to make the holddown spot in a stupid place.

What I done what got a wrench with a closed end and reached around under my intake...might have to take out the dipstick.

Another why is get a short socket with a long extension.

Align yer rotor to the number 1 on the cap.
