Default Another Ranger with wiper troubles..siigggggghhhhh

Ok, here goes...

Just bought my first Ranger, 1992 2.3L 5-speed, pretty much bone stock...have had it two days. I fixed the thermostat so it now heats. The temp gauge not working, but I can live with that right now...

What bothers me most, is that the wipers only work on HIGH and they do not park after turning off the wipers, they just stop wherever they are.

I have read about there being relays, and motors, and a pulse module under the dash causing the problem. The prev owner said he put a new motor in, and the old one IS on the floor i the cab. The switch sems fine. There are two relays under the under-hood fuse panel, but I don't think either is for the wipers, but not sure. I also did find a pair of boxes under the dash behind the ash tray like I have read about, and one is a smaller brown one, which is what I have read is the bad box...

Does anyoe really know what the problem is caused most commonly by?

Thank you so much for any help I get...I have never had a Ranger before, but have mostly always had Fords...

Actually what I wrote was: "they do not park after turning off the wipers, they just stop wherever they are."

You misunderstood what I wrote, I didn't say that I turned off the truck.

There are a couple of relays in the relay/fuse box in the engine compartment that control the wipers. One is for park and another one. Take a look in your owner's manual for which ones thay are. My girlfriend's Exploder Sport (very similar to a Ranger) hand wiper problems until I replaced both of those relays. It wasn't a very expensive fix.

I pulled the fuse box out, and underneath that is a tray with two relays i it. Are those the ones for the wipers? I don't have a manual yet, just bought the truck a coule days ago...if those two relays are the problem I will definitey go get some replacements!!!

I took the control module out frim under the dash, and took it apart...everything inside LOOKS good, but ya can't really tell itis bad unless ou se something burnt, and there isn't...but there is a guy parting a Ranger out in tow, and he is going to give me the controller module free, so I will try to get the two relays too...

There are four wires going to the motor, which has been replaced incidentally...I used a test light (not a volt meter) and had power on two wires both in intermittent and high mode with the switch. But nothing on the other two wires. I am guessing that those two are the intermittent and park wires?

In her Explorer, the box is on the driver's side mounted to the fender. You lift the lid and the relays are inside. I'll try to remember to take alook at the schematics I have at home. Your's is too old to be able to down load the manual from the Ford web site since they stopped (or started) at 1996 but the 1996 manual might give you a place to start. Try this link: https://www.flmowner.com/servlet/Con...OwnerGuidePage

or this one: http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pub.../96ranog1e.pdf

Page 313 shows the power distribution box. You are looking at the wiper hi-lo relay and the wiper run relay.

If swapping them out doesn't fix the problem, than you might be looking at replacing your multi-function switch which is the whole switch assembly that has the turn signals, hazard light switch, and wiper switch.
