Default Turbo question

A buddy of mine has a 97 ranger with the 2.3L and he got a complete turbo setup off of an 86 thunderbird also with the 2.3L. My question is: does anybody know if this will bolt right up and run correctly?

turborangerforums.com, yes it will bolt up, run right no needs turbo ecu or remap of the stock ranger ecu. And engine internals will not hold boost well he will need the interals out of a turbo motor

Ok, Thanks Micheal. I think he was hoping for a bolt on turbo job! Might be more than he wants to get into.

Yea it could be done for relatively cheap and not to hard but definantly not a direct bolt on and run kinda thing

As far as parts, yes, pretty much a bolt on project.
As for it running right... well, that depends. you WILL NEED the ecu from the T-bird and some mild tuning to get it just right.
As for the stock internals... the two I made ran 9-11 psi just fine but I wouldn't push it past 10 to be safe.

He has access to the whole t-bird, so the computer wouldn't be a problem. And I dont think he is too worried about the motor as I have another block sitting around. lol I also read somewhere that you have to get different injectors and fuel pump. Is this true too?

In my research the stock internals are basically the same except Turbo has forged pistons. If the project engine has more than 50-60K miles I would be inclined to replace all internals. This all depends on how you plan to drive it once the project is complete. If you have a 5 speed, you may want to replace clutch and pressure plate with something a bit more stout to handle the increased torque.

The fuel pump and injectors will need to be replaced. A website "The Ranger Station" has an excellent article on a Turbo Coupe donor swap. This article includes info for a complete build as well.
