I think i did pretty good on my first tank. 96 2.3L. 225 70 R14 tires. I got 380miles mixed(city & highway) just b4 the guage touched the E. And of course, i'm sure i could've got another 20miles on the last gallon, but i didnt wanna take that risk. I guess that makes it right around 23.5mpg city & highway. I'm pretty sure if i did all highway, i could reach 450-470 easily. I'll be going to austin this weekend, so i'll post back my all highway mileage. Also wanted to add that i just bought this truck & did EVERY possible maintenance repair. Pulled upper & lower intakes, TB, IAC, MAF, and cleaned them until they were spick n span. New fuel filter, spark plugs & wires. Replaced motor oil, coolant, & tranny fluids. Also replaced the air filter with a K&N, & did the "weird" spark plug wire switch mod. And finally, i shift @ 2k rpms everytime & never go faster than 60mph. I still have my tailgate closed so we'll see what happens when i take it down.

So i made two changes this time. 1)I dropped my tailgate. & 2)Didnt fill up the tank. I put in 20bux @$3.51 which almost got the needle to the half mark. I racked up 165miles on it. If my math is correct, that means the ranger got 28+ mpg(City 25% Hghwy 75%). I'm very pleased, needless to say. My experience tells me that weight reduction & aerodynamics is key to these trucks getting better gas mileage. As much as i'd like to take my tailgate completely off for the fuel savings, i dunno if i wanna go that far. And someone mentioned sumthn either in this thread or the v6 forums about replacing the hood with a lighter material. GOD THAT HOOD IS HEAVY!

2002, 2.3, 5 speed, 57K miles. Got 29.3 mpg on my first tank. I drive 120 miles daily to and from work. 90% highway driving at 65mph. I am very pleased with my mpg. Hope it stays like this. TW

My four banger's got ~120K on it (rest of specs in the sig). I usually drive it real easy (I've got other stuff to play with if I want to go fast), shifting early and rarely going over 65 on the freeway.

In the summer a fairly normal number is about 26.5 MPG on the freeway @65 mph, but depending on wind direction it'll go between 24 and 28.

Once, on my drive from school to back home (with the wind direction helping me slightly), I managed to get about 29.6 MPG. Pretty phenomenal, definitely the best I've achieved with this truck.

City driving during the summer I almost always get about 25 MPG on the tank. I attribute such great mileage to my daily commute - a 50 mph drive the entire 8 miles to and from work, generally not having to come to a single complete stop. Instant MPG on the scangauge at 50 mph for me is around 32 or 33 MPG.

The V8 ranger in the sig gets about 12. No matter how I drive.

OK Guys. The second full tank I decided to run a can of SeaFoam through it and got an amazing 33.6 mpg out of that tank. I only drove it to work and back with no city driving involved. Hopefully it will stay like this. Not sure if the SeaFoam had anything to do with it but at 7.99 a can it can't really be worth running it all the time. Any ideas. TW

I got a 2000 extended cab 3.0. Body lift, 33/12.50s with 4.10 gears. Best I've gotten so far is 17.9, which is pretty damn good IMO considering how weak the 3.0 is. I drive 100 miles highway ( 2 lane blacktop, some hills, 55mph ) then the rest is country driving and city ( 5 stoplights, 20 mile round trips from home to school and back, never gong over 2500 rpms) anyone else gettin these #s

Didn't mean to hijack halls thread btw.

222,500 miles on my truck. I get anywhere from 24-29mpg. I drive 90% highway and 10% city traffic with stop and go. On the interstate I usually do about 77 - 80mph which is when I get closer to 24mpg. I usually shift around 3k.

I get 24mpg at best, and avg 21.9. I have a 30mile daily commute which is 50% hwy 50% city. Keep in mind this in an auto.

Looking to put 31in BFG A/Ts and a 3in susp lift, but scared of the decrease in mpg.....

I get 22-23 mpg on a 45% city and 55% highway. Run the highway at 60-65 mph. Drive to work is about 25 miles one way.
My truck is a 1998 2wd ext cab 2.5L 5-speed. Got 30" tires and 4.10 lsd in the rear.
I usually shift at like 3500 rpm 2nd-4th. Hit 5th at a whopping 2000 rpm.
