I have a new 2.3L stock (info in signature) and so far I am getting a combined 22 MPG, which is pretty good considering I do a good deal of stop and go through the city and about 1/4 of my commute to and from work is 75-80 MPH on the highway. I'm happy so far with it...

Cheaply Rebuilt 2.3l__ as in my signature.

New rings/rods/bearings/pistons.

First tank on new motor 15.4mpg
2000mi on new motor 19.9mpg, clilmbing with every tank.

I drive mountain highways windy uphill/downhill and then city gridlock (spend 1hr NOT moving in traffic each way, every day).

EDITl: 195/60R15 tires

yeah I know.... this thread is about 4cyl...but, this is where I posted last time as did many other 6cyl owners. So to continue with the madness here is the recent findings on my 3.0 Flex...

I just checked my MPG on my last tank and found it produced a whopping 16.14 miles per gallon...mostly city driving. Rarely put my foot in on this tankfull.

It is an improvement from the 1st tankfull at 14mpg.

3rd tankfull and it's consistent, 16.14 mpg. Changing plugs and wires this weekend....we'll see if that will improve the mpg. From what I see this 3.0 won't get much more.

Just hit 6,200 miles...had it almost three months now.

Average 27 mpg almost every tank. This is the daily driver. Route is 31-32 miles 2-lane country road (40-60-something) with all the hills, curves and occasional stop signs, 16 miles freeway @ 65-70, and 3-4 miles city streets. 51-52 miles one way.

It seemed very tight and wimpy at first (but then again, I had been driving either a Crown Vic or E350 w/ V-10, both with plenty of power). I have noticed two threshholds up until now. The first was in the mid-2,000's and the second nearing 6,000 miles. Each seemed to release a bit more power, but it may be that I am getting used to it and planning the run-up for the larger hills allowing me to get over without shifting. And things loosening up.

With these tires and the 3.73 gears (seems I read that somewhere) I find better mileage keeping the shift point lower than I did at first, around 2,500-2,600, with the lower gears a bit shorter and the higher gears a bit longer. Seems to work.

95 2.3L 30 MPG (It helps to upgrade plugs, wires, air filter)
00 3.0 Flex 22 MPG (Nothing I've done seems to help)

20 on average. 3" body lift and 31" tires. I have an AEM Brute Force intake and cutoff exhaust, otherwise I'd be getting around ten.

Old decrepit 2.3, around 98K miles, '83 vintage with YFA carb and I suspect a 3.73 rear end, and AOD automatic, and it idles shittliy but runs fine with the carb open. I get somewhere between 20 and 22 mpg, can't tell exactly what as my fuel tank neck leaks so I can't fill it.

But my son's '87 Mustang GT with 302 and 5 speed does even better, rarely below 21 mpg, usually 22 to 23 mpg, it's done 28 mpg on one 225 mile run to Rhode Island, PLUS has a whole lot more torque and horsepower to boot, to combat those idiotic Audi drivers who think their monthly payments and insane HID headlights also include road ownership. I really wish I could afford to swap in a 302.
