Re: Mpg?
I see about 20 mpg on average with a completely stock Ranger. Last summer I was seeing 21-22 mpg with the non-winter blend fuel. Once in a blue moon I would see 24 mpg.

Well after reading all of these im getting pretty good mileage. my ranger is stock pretty much has a K&N & plugs are over gapped slightly on a 2.3L with a 5 speed trans
Last time i averaged it was my drive from Phoenix Az to Gallup NM & its about 350 miles

Re: Mpg?
I have an 05 FX4 level 2 with a stick and a topper & stock tires. I get 18-19mpg running 87 octane and 90+% back roads.

Re: Mpg?
1997 Mazda B2300
2.3 Lima OHC (I've always loved how Mazda did the model names based off the engine size.)
66,004 miles at time of writing
Engine is stock everything
All maintenance done (new plugs, oil, air filter, belts etc.) in the past 10,000 miles.
Running 89 Octane fuel at the moment.
Original 14" wheels with standard tires.
Stock M5OD Manual
I'm getting between 22-25 MPG combined due to the inability for me to test pure highway and pure city MPG.

Re: Mpg?
Well, I finally got through my first tankfull. Not impressive at all.
Approx 15mpg. Mostly city driving.
I expected at least 17mpg.
The previous owner had installed a trottlebody mod and K&N airfilter. Dual FlowMasters.
I, in no way, am a mechanic. I have not replaced the wires and plugs yet.
Would that be the logical 1st place to start?
Shouldn't the 3.0 be getting better MPG?
What is needed to improve the MPG?

Sounds normal to me. It's a brick on wheels. It's a truck. They're not designed for nor intended to be MPG machines. And the 3.0 doesn't have much power to begin with so it has to work hard to move that thing around.
Bringing that MPG number up is going to be all in your foot. Fuel economy is 10% regular maintenance and 90% how you drive. Slower acceleration, planning your coasts-to-stop, keeping it at 65mph or less, etc. There is nothing you can bolt-on, add-on, plug-in, or pour-in that will magically add more MPG.
If you want to see real performance gains, get a tuner. But don't expect the .5 - 1mpg gain you may or may not get to ever save up the amount of money you spend on the tuner. MPG is not free no matter what you do.

Re: Mpg?
Wow!! That sucks. It is what it is.
Well the truck looks good anyway. Thanx for the reality check. Damn fuel prices are killing us.

Thanks, I'll let you guys know.
New here on the Forum and just realized this thread was started under the 4-cyl tech field. Might be why no one has mentioned the 4.0, even though some here are 3.0.

Sure.. it doesn't take a degree to figure that this site has specific catergories for inquiries.
Thanks for the critique, I've been put on notice.....
