Default 95-96 Engine compatibility

Hi everyone,
I just found this forum while trying to get my 96 Ranger fixed. My uncle and I are working on it and we have come to the conclusion that I have a blown head gasket. We were going to replace it but just found a crate 2.3 on craigslist close by (cheap). We talked to the owner and he says it is a 95 and only has 4 plugs. My 96 has 8 plugs. We were thinking about just swapping my head onto the 95 block. and having a basically new engine. Does anyone know if there are any compatibility issues between the 95/96 or the 4/8 plug heads?

If it only has 4 plugs,it is not a 95 ranger engine.Does it have a Dist.or a cam sensor or block off plug in that hole?Fuel injected? It might be a industrial motor

Update. It is a 95 ranger engine. The casting code is f57e-6015-gd. I found all the code info except the "gd" My uncle is heading up there to look at it and confirm then buy I today. Turns out my engine is toast. #3 cylinder is toast and so are the valves on 3 and 4.

Another update...It is an industrial head. F5JL-6033-BA The head has the indentations where the extra plugs should go. Does anyone know if this can work as a replacement engine? Can I drill and tap the head for the extra plugs? Use my head? Anything? Can I flash my ECU to work with 4 plugs? I really don't want to get a new truck right now. Thanks for any help.
