Default clicking noise???

is it normal for my 2004 ranger 2.3 to have a sewing machine noise coming from the motor????

put oil in it. i had this problem, the tapets click when the top part of the motor is oil starved.

or do an oil change.

How sure are you that its coming from the motor? Make sure its not one of your pulleys making the sound first.

i did an oil change and the clicking is still the same, maybe they click because they're dohc's??? 2X the parts moving

yes. fuel injectors click constantly when the solenoids open and close. because its a small engine, there's less noise in the engine bay and they might seem louder.
4 liters do the same thing, they just have really noisy ones for some reason.

overhead camshaft engines do not have lifters and such, and do not make noises when the top end is not receiving enough oil as do pushrod engines. i.e, the 3 liter.

check your oil, shoot could just be a rock in between the tread on your tire. I was worried about that awhile ago, then noticed I had rocks in my tire tread..

it does it all the time, but doesnt get any louder as i increase the rpm's, and the clicking gets faster as the rpms go up... its been doing that for 6,000 miles so it cant be too serious, just kind of annoying
