Default Fuel Pressure Issues

Hi, newb here.

I'm having some starting issues. Takes several cranks to start and shakes pretty harshly when finally fires. Suspected and check fuel pressure. When the key is turned (not started) the pressure spikes to operating pressure but instantly falls down to almost 0. Sounds like a check valve issue but I've read similar issues else where and it was the fuel pressure regulator. Naturally, I would really prefer to just replace the malfunctioning part. Any advice on telling which is the culprit?

Additionally, once started the truck runs fine but the pressure is about 65psi. Is that high? I thought norm was 30-50 but I've seen multiple pressure ranges listed on various forums.

It's a 2002 Ranger XLT 2.3L 5sp

Thanks!

60-65 psi for both KOEO and engine running.

but cycle the key several times while holding the run position for 3 seconds each time to look at the KOEO results.

Update:

Changed the fuel filter and checked the fuel pressure again with pretty much the same result. The only difference is that pressure drops slower when key is cycled.

What do yall think?

Is the FPR part of the fuel pump set up so if I buy the pump it comes with the FPR?

Any reason you did not add the Techron to the tank?
