Does anyone know if the canister goes bad that it could cause slight hard starting problems and a slight rough idle...I have tried to read about how the system works and it seems logical that it could cause these issues. 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3

97 ranger 3.o v6... im thinking the same problem here did some reserch and will find out but i found some rotted hose going to my evap can and fixed it but smelled gas before and even now im think the canister could be bad but im not sure if tearing it apart to inspect it will tear it up? i smell gas and get crappy mileage and get scared when she so hard to start,
same problem.??
