Default need help

Need help with 2.0 outta my 88 ranger it shot the dipstick out and I lost all the oil and now have a small knock and have been told I have a cracked piston? Anyone had this happen? Do I have to rebuild the engine because I just had it rebuilt because I had a loud rod knocking

Knocking can mean different things.

You lose OIL PSI, you will spin yer bearings. You have rod, main, and cam bearings. If you spin one, you will hear a knock.

You will have to take the engine apart (if you want to do it correctly) and have the engine block and heads clean because there will be metal bits in the oil that will scratch and ruin the inside of yer engine especially the crank and cylinder walls.

Well thats what happens to any engine if you dont have oil.

Yer 302 could do the same thing and you will be in the same boat.

Do what you want man.

You got either gas mileage (4 cylinder) or power (302).

It's up to you and how you want to spend yer money on gas, etc.

You have more than a cracked piston. Most likey a hole in the piston. That is creating crankcase compression and blowing out the dip stick. If you paid a shop to rebuild the motor they screwed it up, more likely they screwed you. Probably used old pistons.

Like I have stated I know nothing atall about engines I can do simple tuneups starters and altenators but that's the limit I spent $1000 to have the engine rebuilt and while driving shot the dipstick out and pushed all my oil out the dipstick tube, a perfectly good 302 which I will have pulled apart by a dif mech and checked out will be a suitable replacement. I really don't like fords but its all I can afford due to resale value of gm and chrysler but fords parts are so much more expensive than gm and dodge! I came on here for help with my ranger

It's all good man. Fords are good vehicles (the older models to me are).

Yeah, you see more people fix Chevys and stuff cause parts are cheaper.

Ford is expensive but it's worth it.

Wildland firefighter, I take it you are a firefighter? I am a volunteer at my local station! And my 88 has had 10 million more probs then my 00 ranger! Only thing wrong with my 00 ranger is a bad O2 sensor is bad

And I have has several fords and all but my 00 have gone bad

84 ford f250 6.9 international diesel 2WD-stipped fuel lines, glo plugs wouldn't work too much money to fix

94 f150 5.0 2WD- too much to list that went wrong

88 ranger 2.0 2WD- problems have been stated

I don't much blame fords as much I do my luck but fords are expensive to repair!

Call up whoever rebuilt your engine and bitch them out. They obviously really fucked up and they should have some sort of warranty or guarantee.
