Default Coolant Thermo Sensor, what does it do?

Greetings everyone!

I am tinkering with the truck this week and had a question.

I am troubleshooting an issue with my temp gauge. according to the wiring diagram the gauge receives its information from the engine coolant temp sensor (per mitchells wiring diagram) but i noticed there is also a coolant thermo sensor. What is the difference between these two sensors? We tested the coolant temp sensor with the brick (mt2500 scan tool) and compared the results from the scanner to the reading from a pyrometer and everything matched. I don't suspect the thermo sensor is going to be the cause of my issue but i am just curious as to what this part does.

Thanks all!

Wily
