Any Ranger 4 banger/5 spd regular cab should land you in the 24+ mpg range.....of course the truck would have to be in great shape.

I get about 25 mpg in my '05 4-cyl. You just gotta watch those RPMs. Don't just gun it and go everytime you touch the pedal.

My '98 sees about 21-22 mpg, though I have seen 24 mpg on occasion. With me living in the Appalachian Mountain Plateau, the cards are stacked against me getting the numbers the guys above do though.

in my 98 i get somewhere around 17-20 but i don't really watch the rpms i have gotten as many as around 24 i think. but any 2.3 or 2.5 will get you the numbers you are wanting you just have to watch how you drive it.

When new, my 94 with the 2.3 got between 27 and 30 mpg driving easy around town and 70-75 on the hwy.

Now, 254K miles later it's around 21-23 mpg.

John
I feel your pain with the rising cost of fuel. I recently moved and now have a 45 mile commute each way to work. In Dec i bought a 4cyl Ranger for just that reason and am averaging 25-28 mpg.

holy shit, thats terrible gas mileage. i have a 4.0 4wd and i get 16 city and even 19 highway. I would get a new airfilter and seafoam because that shit can clean vaccum lines out like no other. But my brothers 2.5 5spd gets 25 a gallon and he beats the hell out of it.
