Thanks!! My handy test light confirmed the green with orange stripe.
Thanks for all the help guys.. I'll post some pics when I'm done.
While I have the tools out I am going to install the white gauge overlays & my vacume gauge.
So 3 mods in 1 day squeezed in between the stuff on the honey do list

Did you get it done yet?
Why the vacume gauge?

I am not sure what the cut off is on the Rangers, but in my past cars, the compressor will not run under I think 35˚, after that point air is already dried out, where above that temp you get better defrost results.
On my Stratus, I had the A/C button to turn on the comrpressor, but if I had it off and swtiched to defrost, the compressor came on unitll the temps drop below 35˚ or so.

If that was true then it would run the compressor when you had it in the off position. The reason it is set to go on all the time is to dry the air up a bit.

Today we hit 28˚ this morning, and when I went to work, I had it on defrost mode.
When I arrived at work, I pop my hood up, and the compressor and electric fan was not running. When I came home it was 35˚, and still wasn't running.

Can you explain more about the EATC switch you have. Is it something you added or is it built in to the EATC?
I'm assuming you are using the Rear Blower motor switch and using a SPDT relay.

its a cheap way of watching your fuel mileage...
the more throttle you give the motor, the less vacuum it will have and the less fuel mileage you will get
try to keep the vacuum gauge at its highest (it will be highest at idle) and your gas mileage will improve as long as you keep your foot out of it

Yes, the EATC rear blower disable switch and I used a common Bosch pattern "automotive" relay because that's what I have laying around.
Diagrams for various Ranger years with EATC conversion here.
For a 2000 Ranger without the EATC swap, it is a simple matter of interrupting the purple wire with a common on/off toggle, no relay required.

Re: WTF is up with the Rangers addiction to the A/C?
the ac comes on in winter to dry out the air in the cabin to make defrosting faster. the load of the compressor helps with warm up of the engine in cold weather.
also 134a compressor needs to kept lubed up or they will seize up unlike the old r12 compressor.

They will run down to about 32˚ and shuts off since risk of flooding is high.

So simple fix right? Just unplug the wire from the A/C compressor & it can't engauge.
Well it doesn't engauge the A/C but something thinks it is.
Why do I say that? Well go out & unplug it like I did the go for a drive. Find a place you can coast. Put it in neutral & the RPMs drop to about 1100RPM, now as you are coasting at 1100rpm turn the a/c or defrost on & watch the rpms jump up tp 2100rpm & stay there. The only way it will idle down is to either be at a complete stop or to turn the a/c off. Now remember the compressor is unplugged. WTF??
I simply want to be able to run my defrost without the a/c sucking up my MPG & power. & it defeats the purpose if it revs up between shifts & idles at 2100rpm in neutral.
My old Festiva didn't have a/c & the defrost worked fine..
Please help me figure this out!!

No intention of being a dick. A 4cylinder vs V-6's like many have. It can't be that bad..why not just leave things alone? You aren't going to get 2X's gas mileage....maybe what? You are driving a truck in 2010....2040 people will envy us all for what we could drive now.

Re: WTF is up with the Rangers addiction to the A/C?
In my experience, just unplugging the A/C compressor is NOT a good thing, I have had 2 pump clutchs seize up from the pully spinning freely and not engaging the clutch every now and then. When your going down the road and that pully locks up it will fry your belt.
This is what I did. I have 2 belts, 1 for summer with A/C, 1 for winter with out A/C.
I leave the pump plugged in and just dont run the belt around it.
