throttle body/intake gook
In my quest find vacuum leaks (the CEL on my 2.5/4 is on with a P0171 code) I removed my throttle body to check the small hose from the evap return on the bottom side. When I removed the body I noticed alot of black gook on the inside of the throttle body (up to the blade) and inside the intake (see pic).
Is this normal? This stuff is pretty thick and simi-wet. It dissolves with spray carb cleaner but since it's so thick I am soaking the bottom of the throttle body tonight in cleaner to ease the process.
Another question.....should I worry about taking the intake off and cleaning it or should I just let it be? I'm thinking it should'nt be there.
Also, any thoughts on if this is related to the P0171 code? I dont think it is the cause of the lean code, but could this be the symptom from all the extra fuel the system is injecting to "equalize" the detected lean condition? If so, any thoughts on a specific fix other than the usuals for a P0171 code?
