15.5 mpg in a 2.3?
i just calculated my mpg for 2010 ranger xl 2.3 and i was not very impressed i was getting what most are getting in their 4.0 15.5mpg! i know for sure that im a little quick with my accelerating and i could work on that... but ive been driving a lot slower than i used to... if anyone has any other pointers other than just my speed please help! almost all the miles are highway. cannot wait till winter is over so i can get the 200 pounds of weight out of my bed... guess that isnt helping either

The weight is not helping.
Is it a auto or manual? What speeds are you driving?

If it is under warranty take it to Ford.

Re: 15.5 mpg in a 2.3?
its a manual... i mostly drive on the highway to commute from home to work... on the highway in town between 50-55mph speed limit is 50 and on the highway to get home out of town about 70mph... i live in canada so its all in km/h so its 80 km/h in town and i do about 110 km/h in a 100km/h zone out of town and im always constant with my speed on my way home once i leave town

How many miles are on it? You can expect your worse gas mileage within the first 10k miles, especially under 5k. However it shouldn't be that bad. What are your driving habits like?

Re: 15.5 mpg in a 2.3?
i've got about 125lbs in my 97. It's an automatic and this winter i've only got 16-17mpg with it and i drive slow and have a tonneau cover (idk if it helps), so 15.5 doesn't sound to off the wall to me.

Driving slower and shifting earlier won't save but 1-2 mpg. There is obviously a problem with the truck....take it back to a Ford dealer and have them figure it out.
Pulling 200 lbs out of the bed won't save a doggone thing.
You should be getting no less than 24 mpg overall with a 2.3/5 spd regular cab.
Maybe your calculator needs new batteries or your odometer is off.....hell maybe the gas pumps where you fuel up need calibration.
Maybe some POS is siphoning your gas out at night.......we had a lot of that type of crime around here when gas hit $3 a gallon.
SOMETHING JUST DON'T ADD UP!!!!!!

Re: 15.5 mpg in a 2.3?
The problem is the cold. Considering where you are and the temps I am not surprised by what you are averaging.
