Wont pass inspection due to noise?
The power steering pump wines. Its done this since i bought the truck. 6 years and i have never been told it cant make any noise. Ive replaced it twice and the noise is still there. What can i do to get it to pass the damn state inspection?

Re: Wont pass inspection due to noise?
Sounds like the person doing the safety inspection is trying to sell you a power steering pump...
How loud is it?? Is it annoyingly loud or just normal PS whine??

Pretty annoying. Neighbors can hear me when turning onto my street or in the driveway. Ive tried Lucas, other p/s fluids and even stp oil cleaner as a friend told me to try plus replacing the pump twice. Nothing works.

My EXACT thought!
Seriously, I don't think he's as fazed by the moan sound as much as he's thinking about how he (wrongly) perceives it will fail, and that you will be a weenie that can't steer a P/S vehicle with the P/S out, that you will proceed to flatten a kid in a stroller being pushed by a single mom on welfare, and that he will get sued and lose in court. So, bigger bribe or get it inspected where you did last time. Or move up here, where we don't have those pesky inspections.

Re: Wont pass inspection due to noise?
I've a NEW ONE on me truck and it's as quiet as a church mouse.
The ONLY TIME it made a noise was because of a leak culminating in low fluid level.
Y'all have some weird ford trucks.
Maybe the WHINE might be the IDLER PULLEY or the BAD BEARING (IF applicable) of the Pump Pulley??

Get a shorter belt and unhook it to get it inspected.
