re-calibrate Throttle position sensor

Hey guys, I got a 09' 2.3L engine...

I accidentally took out the ENTIRE T.P.S. and now my RPM is revering abnormally....how do i re-calibrate the TPS?

Check a repair manual for voltage at closed throttle and WOT (wide open throttle) and adjust accordingly.

I don't think it is something you can adjust?? I think maybe you just didn't put it back in lined up properly maybe? Take it out and make sure it goes back into the slot properly. I guess.

I guess I have to give you some background information first...

I over torqued 1 of the 2 screws that hold the TPS to the throttle body (so pissed, should have took it slow). Now the screw is stuck in the throttle body...Now the TPS is not firmly in place in the TB. I thought there were 2 problems 1) The TPS's alignment or something was tampered when I took it out and therefore have to recalibrate ( I guess now, it is not)... 2) TPS is not secured properly...(which I guess now is the sole problem)

This effected my RPM. When I would down-shift to a stop, when ever I press on the clutch, it would rev like...100-200 RPM (which it did not before) and then when I stopped and put it into neutral, it would rev about 250-500 RPM, then it would go down.

Have any suggestions on how to get that screw out? I've tried getting out with pliers, but I'm thinking to get those 'mastercraft drill-out' tools...

You could dremel the screw head off and just use one of the two bolts to hold it in place. Or you could try vice grips to back it out, but it might just snap the bolt.

Sorry, I should re-phrase what I said...I actually broke off the head of the screw...now the lower half of the screw is stuck in the TPS. It's being held with one screw since, but i think because of that, my RPM is being weird (like what I explained earlier). So I think the problem is the TPS is not held in securely...so it's causes my RPM to behave abnormally. I might get one of those drill-out tools...or just get a new throttle body LOL...you know where to get one online? lol

one screw should hold it in fine. Mine was held in with one screw for a long time cause one was cross threaded. Is the TPS tight or does it wiggle if you try to move it?

It wiggles when you try to move it...and a little wiggle goes a long way in controlling the throttle...my dad wiggled it while the truck was running, and it caused either a decrease or an increase in RPM

I dk about the 2.3, but in the 4.0, the tps is held in with by two star slot screws that strip easily. I replaced mine with two phillips head screws. They didn't actually screw in the tps instead through. Do u may need to drill the broke screw out and put a bigger screw in if urs is like this

Well that's defiantly your problem then. Get the drill

the 2.3L also uses 2 star head screws for the TPS. Yeah I'm gonna see what I can do with those 'drill-out' drill bits...hopefully It comes out

now like i said, on the 4.0, the screws have cutter threads and just screws into two plastic holes, nothing major.

Just so others know, the TPS is very close to the firewall on the 96 Ranger and thus it could be difficult to remove. Be careful.
