Rpm problem and knocking noise

i have a 91 ford ranger with the 2.3l 8 spark plugs. the truck has a knocking noise when i go up hill at a low rpm or when the truck is loaded. any ideas.

the rpm problem is that before the truck sat for 8 months the truck would rev up to 5500rpms now it wont go past 3500rpms. any ideas?

but the knocking noise has been happening before the truck sat for the 8 months.

It's impossible to tell without looking at it for myself but it pretty much sounds like main bearing issues. It won't rev past 3500 rpms......can't even guess on that.
