If there was one thing I could be stranded on an island with, it would be an RX-7. Love those things.

Food for thought.
YES that is a VERY good question... anybody has anything to say 'bout this???

Right, it's to control the noise level. Guys like us usually like loud stuff - music, exhaust, etc. But average Joe likes a quiet ride.

That's still not answering the question, though.

I had a hell of a time with mine, then I grabbed the pry bar, and pryed on the side then it popped out on me.

An update, on my mod. I noticed more "noise" from the engine and a better respond from it.

Unless you are tacking it up to 5000RPM on a regular basis. A CAI on this engine is a waste of $$ in my opinion. The very minor difference you will see from a simple K&N drop in filter to a full blown CAI on the 2.3 isn't worth it.
I have been around some of the fastest cars in the world including 4cylinders, oddly not one, not even a mild one had the stock box. All, meaning every one had some form of a filter charger/CAI, POP charger set-up. If your are a math whiz, then play with the Volume required by a nominal 2.0l 1988cc, motor per rotation, then play with the variables 1k rpm's per minute, 2.5k rpm per min, then 5k per min, I hope at this point you would see the light. If not, much love your car will drive just fine stock.

Lube the lower plugs and pull harder. The trick to it is the plate the bottom is mounted to moves with the box, if you can have a friend with a stick keep it down it'll be a lot easier. HTH
