this is where you will see how it done . only we have a newer box set up and you cant see the grommets, and you dont need wd40. but other than that its the same process

There's nothing to be happy or not happy about. It's still the same intake, taking in the same amount of air.

Wow, a lot of opinions flying back and forth on here. I myself have a 2.5 and have done some mods to it. I installed a K&N cold air intake, Airraid throttle body spacer, headers, and a cat back exhaust with a flowmaster muffler. Sure, you don't gave a TON of power but you gain power, that is a fact. I have never had it dynoed so I can't give you any numbers. I can tell you that my gas mileage improved dramatically. That right there tells me that these mods are worth it. When it was bone stock, it seemed to get right around 20mpg no matter how I drove it. Now I am getting anywhere from 21.5-22 city, and up to 23.5 freeway.

Something to keep in mind, K&N intakes can be pricey, but they do a lot of testing on their products. Their claim is that if they make a CAI for your application, it will give you more power. I have been a loyal K&N user for years and I believe them.

As far as being worried about not spending $100 so you can spend it on a girl...you need to work on your game. If you got game, you don't need to spend money and they will come back for more! (don't get offended, i'm just messing...kind of, lol)

took out the intake muffler. cool. like free mods. just want to know the benefits of an k&n intake other than getting rid of old intake tube with ribs inside to slow air down.

can anyone tell me if the cold air intake they bought made a noticeable difference on a 4.0 ohv?

I just did my "Mod", took out the stuff the STL showed.

Went to Fleet Farm, and they had the K & N filters. Got mine for $52, and they just happen to have a "demo" thing set up. A tube with a ping pong ball, and with the regular filter, the ball hardly moved when the fan came on. Then installed the K & N filter, and the ball went all the way up to the top of the tube!

So, put the filter in, and put in a full tank of gas in. I get 425 miles on a tank of gas., We'll see if the tank will go longer, but Winter is on it's way here in Minnesota, so be hard to say if MPG will get better.

The airbox is still the same size airbox, isn't it? The volume of air that the airbox holds remains the same - a bigger opening doesn't change that. The diameter of the air duct is still the same.

It's like blowing through a straw. You're only going to move X amount of air through it. Now jam the small end of a funnel into the straw and blow through the big end. You'll still only be able to move the same amount of air - even though you have a bigger opening.

All this "mod" really does is change the sound - which is why you hear it referred to as a "muffler" or "resonator". It's not restricting airflow. To really move more air you'd need a complete CAI.

But it is harmless, so it doesn't really matter if it's there or not.
